I enjoyed visiting all three schools, but liked the Junior High School best, because of the interaction with and the reaction of the students. I really liked seeing the skills and trade of the Hama Collage Students and was able to connect with a few of them.
The High School was more enlightening than entertaining, mainly because the classes were in a foreign language and I was not asked to participate at all, except in music class, where the teacher talked to me about the music we listened to and had me speak for the class .
As much as I love my host family, I fond myself getting a little homesick two weeks into my stay here, I started looking for familiar things to remind me of home, but the longer I stayed, the familiar Haramachi became .
Rice is served every meal. I'm finally used to the humidity. I've figured out those floor-toilets and I am able to understand and ever speak a little Japanese. My host family is my family now, my host siblings are just like my brothers and sisters and I will miss all of my family members terribly. I'm so grateful for getting to come here to meet people and experience the culture, I made a lot of friends and a lot of memories and I know that once I do go back to Pendleton. I am going to be homesick for here. |
